Why site speed isn't a vanity metric

It affects who stays, what Google shows, and what you pay per click.

Speed and mobile abandonment

Roughly half of mobile visitors abandon a page that takes more than three seconds to load. Nothing you write on the page — the offer, the proof, the price — recovers a visitor who never saw it load.

This matters most on paid traffic: you already paid for that click. A slow page throws away money you already spent.

Speed and your ad cost

Google Ads Quality Score factors in landing page experience, and load speed is part of that. A faster, more relevant landing page can lower your cost-per-click for the exact same keyword and bid — Google rewards pages that don't waste searchers' time.

Meta's ad delivery works similarly: slow, low-quality landing experiences get less favorable delivery and higher costs over time.

What "fast enough" actually means

Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool scores your page 0–100 on Core Web Vitals — the same metrics used in ranking and ad quality. Green is 90+. Below that, you're leaving both conversions and ad efficiency on the table.
